Movie DCP

What is a DCP

A DCP (Digital Cinema Package) is the industry-standard, high-resolution digital format used for distributing and projecting films in cinemas. Usually it's a physical copy of the movie on a hard drive that your theater will play the movie from.

When you host a Steep movie event in a theater, our team will deliver the DCP for The Psychology of Retirement to your theater for you. This article explains more about the DCP delivery process.

Who sends the DCP file to the theater?

Steep Marketing takes care of all DCP (Digital Cinema Package) shipping for movie events. Advisors do not need to handle the file delivery themselves — our team manages the entire process to ensure your screening runs smoothly.

How does the process work?

Steep partners with Deluxe, a trusted professional distributor for digital cinema. Deluxe coordinates directly with participating theaters to ship, deliver, and confirm receipt of each DCP file.

All theater information is already on file, ensuring a seamless delivery process for every event.

Will I receive tracking information?

Yes. Once your DCP has shipped, Steep will provide tracking details to your office.
This allows you to monitor the shipment and verify when the file has arrived at your theater location.

What is a digital DCP?

While most theaters still run off of physical DCP hard drives, some theaters can accommodate digital or electronic DCPs. Steep's DCP partner will use e-delivery of a digital DCP when it's available.

If a digital DCP is being used for your event, you will not receive a tracking number from Steep. Instead we'll send you a notification confirming e-delivery is being used instead.

What should I do after the DCP arrives?

We recommend that advisors contact the theater directly once the DCP has arrived to:

  • Confirm they have received the file, and

  • Ensure the theater is able to play and test the DCP file successfully before event day.

  • Many theaters invite private event hosts to their theater to test the DCP prior to their private showing.

These steps help to avoid any technical issues and guarantees a smooth experience for both the advisor and attendees.
